Reuters: Trump’s candidate picks: some firsts included, but diversity down from Biden

Washington, D.C., November 25, 2024: Reuters reporters Bo Erickson, Andrea Shalal, and James Oliphant report on President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks. While some selections mark historic firsts, such as Susie Wiles becoming the first woman White House Chief of Staff and Marco Rubio being the first Hispanic nominee for Secretary of State, the overall diversity remains lower than previous administrations.

Trump’s cabinet includes eight women, which is double the number from his first term, but still fewer than President Biden’s cabinet of 11 women. Trump’s picks also include four people of color, representing about 20% of the cabinet. However, this number remains well below Biden’s cabinet, which included 13 people of color, Obama’s with 10, Bush’s with six, and Clinton’s with eight, according to Inclusive America.
