Washington, D.C., March 06, 2021: In recent Reuters’s article, journalist Andrea Shalal features the work of Inclusive America and interviews co-founder Mark Hanis on the cabinet demographics. This article is written in response to Neera Tanden’s nomination withdrawal and covers democrats’ pick, Shalanda Young. Shalanda Young is the first Black woman to serve as the staff director for Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee, could become the first Black woman to head the OMB. In the article, Hanis is quoted regarding the impacts of this decision:
“If Biden chooses another woman of color to head the Office of Management and Budget, and all remaining nominees are confirmed, his cabinet will be 46% female and 50% non-white, including Biden and Harris, according to Inclusive America, a non-profit that tracks diversity in government.”
Inclusive America continues to support President Joseph Biden on his Cabinet picks, and will continue to hold him and the Senate accountable for all those confirmed.
