NPR: Across Federal Workforce, People With Disabilities See Need For More Representation

Washington, D.C., August 2, 2021NPR reporter Deepa Shivaram, in her recent article, covers the efforts being made to increase inclusion for People with Disabilities (PWDs). In this discussion, Shivaram includes the challenges of representation that PWDs still face, and hones in on Inclusive America’s partnership with Kristin Fleschner, a former employee at the State Department and the CIA, to address the lack of technological accessibility in the Federal government.

In partnership with Inclusive America, Fleschner has been working on an Executive Order that will aim to improve technological accessibility in the intelligence community.

This lack of technological accessibility, according to Fleschner, is attributed to an assumption of a higher security risk.” Information security remains the most critical goal,” Fleschner says, “but we’re trying to give options for agencies to prioritize accessibility alongside the information security regulations.”
