Bloomberg: Trump’s Second-Term Cabinet Is More Diverse Than His First

Washington, D.C., January 10, 2025: Bloomberg reporters Kelsey Butler, María Paula Mijares Torres, and Dave Merrill report on the diversity of cabinet nominees selected by President-elect Donald Trump for his second administration. While the cabinet reflects greater gender diversity compared to his first administration, it still faces criticism for underrepresenting racial minorities. The selection includes only three people of color, a figure that remains consistent with Trump’s previous cabinet. Mark Hanis, co-founder of Inclusive America, is quoted regarding the continuing disparity in cabinet diversity.

Hanis notes, “The sad thing is the bar is really low… parity with the US population would mean about half the selections of any president would be women — something that has never happened.”

Hanis also highlights the importance of diverse perspectives in decision-making: “The more homogenous those tables are, the less likely our people will trust and support those policies.”

Inclusive America, a nonprofit organization that tracks diversity in government, continues to evaluate presidential appointments and advocate for policies that promote greater representation across various demographics.
