USA TODAY: Tracking the confirmation of Biden’s Cabinet members

Washington, D.C., March 5, 2021: To track the confirmation of Biden’s Cabinet members to nominees, Mitchell Thorson and George Petras of USA TODAY works with Inclusive America and other sources to develop a dynamic site tracking each nominee and confirmed member. USA Today credits Inclusive America’s ongoing tracking work:

“By ethnicity, 12 members are white, five are African American, four are Hispanic, one is Asian American/Pacific Islander and one is Native American, according to an analysis by Inclusive America. Neera Tanden, who withdrew her nomination for OMB on March 2, is Asian American/Pacific Islander.

The nominations have a number of firsts, including Lloyd Austin, the first Black secretary of Defense; Janet Yellen, the first woman to lead the Treasury Department; Debra Haaland, the first Native American to head the Interior Department; and Pete Buttigieg of Transportation, the first openly gay Cabinet secretary to be confirmed by the Senate.”

Other parts of the article includes the numerical breakdown of Senate vote, notable experience, and the next steps for those confirmed.
