Washington, D.C., February 10, 2022: Defense and Cybersecurity Reporter Justin Doubleday details Democrats’ current efforts to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Department of State. Just last month, nine Democrats on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence published a letter addressed to Principal Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer, asking the White House for an update on the group’s progress.
One of the letter’s signatories, Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Tx.), said the working group’s efforts should be public. “Within reasonable limits, the Biden administration should strive for maximum transparency about the federal workforce so we can identify and address inequities in our government,” Castro said in a statement provided by his office. Inclusive America co-founder, Mark Hanis discusses the necessity of transparency, stating, “By being transparent about what they’re working on, it builds trust.”
